SETUP
The setup of a cricket tank for either housing or breeding crickets is, to some degree personal choice. It also depends on finances and what you have "on hand".
However there are some objects which MUST be there.
Firstly you need shelter for the crickets. Wether this is old toilet roll tubes or egg cartons it doesnt really matter. The main purpose of this is somewhere for the crickets to "hang out". Also if you are breeding its best to have lots of seperate places the crickets can go because the males will fight over females if not.
Obviously you need food. There are many different things crickets will eat. (See FEEDING section)
It is also a good idea to supply a water source. However care and attention must be put into the water supply because crickets can easily drown in the shallowest of water. So i would suggest soaking cotton wool with water then putting it into the tank. Others prefer to leave the water free but fill the bowl with marbles or small pebbles so the crickets are always above the water.
If you want to breed crickets then i wouldnt suggest placing kitchen towel or anything of that nature on the floor of the tank because as soon as it gets damp the females will start to lay their eggs in it. And suprisingly thats NOT what you want. (see BREEDING section)
To keep the tank clean i always remove any dead crickets on a daily basis. You WILL get dead crickets in the tank and although the other crickets will eat them its much better to remove them. For this i use a pair of tweezers.
Below is my previous setup for 2 typical boxes of medium/large brown crickets before i started breeding and having alot more crickets in the same tank.
